The Living Room Origins

Our Founding

Shiloh Temple Apostolic Cathedral, Inc. (formerly known as Shiloh Temple Pentecostal Church) was organized in 1961 by Bishop James A. and Mother Ethel Waiters in colonial Columbia, South Carolina. After laboring in the heat of the day, God moved the family to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where the first service was held in their living room with only their four children and a few neighbors.

The congregation grew rapidly, moving in 1966 to a storefront at 121 Melrose Avenue. As the membership continued to multiply, the search began for a larger sanctuary. In April of 1968, the current edifice at 505 Madison Avenue was purchased. Bishop and Mother Waiters, along with the founding members, worked tirelessly to establish a house of prayer and holiness for all people.

Apostolic Foundation

Through faith, holiness, and Apostolic doctrine, the pioneers of Shiloh Temple built a legacy that continues to thrive at 505 Madison Avenue.

Milestones of Faith

1974: Fire & Radio Broadcast

A devastating fire in 1974 tested the resolve of the congregation, yet the ministry only expanded. That same year marked the beginning of our radio broadcast, spreading the Apostolic message across the airwaves to souls in need.

1978: Rebuilding & Victory

Through the faithful tithes and offerings of the saints, the church was completely rebuilt. In 1978, we celebrated a spiritual and financial landmark with the official mortgage burning ceremony, signifying total ownership and freedom for the ministry.

1983: New Wing & Education

The vision expanded in 1983 with the completion of a new wing. This era heralded the birth of the Sunlight Choir and our vibrant 24-hour Vacation Bible School, providing a spiritual home and training for our youth and community.

1993–1995: Going Up Higher

The 'Going Up Higher' project transformed our sanctuary into the cathedral we call home today. This monumental effort saw the rise of a new sanctuary dedicated to the holy standard of the Apostolic doctrine.

2005: Elevator Dedication

We continued to ensure that our house of prayer was accessible to every soul. The elevator project and its subsequent dedication marked our commitment to providing a welcoming sanctuary for all generations of worshippers.

Bishop James A. and Mother Ethel Waiters led Shiloh Temple with a profound love that became the bedrock of our church family. Their teaching was marked by kindness and a deep commitment to Apostolic truth. Together, they nurtured the Sunlight Choir and established a standard of holiness that resonated through every service, leaving an indelible mark of faith on Atlantic City. Their standard benediction—'Love ye one another... We Have Come This Far by Faith'—remains our guiding light. As the church transitioned into a new era of leadership, we have remained steadfast in the vision they set forth, ensuring that the work of the Lord continues in holiness, Apostolic doctrine, and love.

LOOKING FORWARD

New Leadership

Following the foundational years, the church entered a seasons of growth under Bishop Billal Parrish, Evangelist Victoria Scott, and Elder Willie Jenkins, each bringing unique gifts to provide spiritual preservation for our congregation. This transition of leadership ensured that the standard of holiness and teaching remained central to our life as a church.

Today, under the interim leadership of Elder Gregory N. Trahan, we look ahead with renewed hope. We are committed to continuing the work of the Lord in holiness, Apostolic doctrine, and love, remaining a beacon of light in Atlantic City for generations to come.
